A large exposed loch, shallow with a vast stock of modest trout. A good one is ½ lb, a pounder is a real beauty. Boats available on a 3 session basis but a whole day, morning to dusk, will only cost you about £20 and that's for up to three anglers. Bank fishing is free, no permit needed. Watch when motoring about on this loch. It is possible to run aground in the middle (I have done so and had a hell of a job getting off again) be aware at all times and move with caution. An outboard motor(must bring your own) and a drogue are essential on this windy loch. If the wind is too strong you will not be allowed afloat for safety reasons. Not a place for breaking records but none the worse for that. Salmon and / or sea trout must run into this loch from the Findhorn, at least occasionally, as my boat partner caught a smolt last time we were out.
Some Additional Information From Allan Liddle Probably one of the best traditional hill lochs you can find, decent bank and very good boat fishing. You can also, by prior arrangement only, use your float tube and it's almost 'custom designed' for it. Tackle up with a cast of Kate McLaren bob, Clan Chief mid and Peter Ross tail to get you started and sharpen up for lightning takes. Hoppers and emergers can be deadly and in a big wave get the dapping rod out for spectacular success. |
